Public transit is widely used in Honolulu, with an extensive existing bus system and a new urban rail system slated for 2020. Public schools in Honolulu are managed by the state Department of Education. This is the only statewide school system in the U.S., serving more than 185,000 students. Three of the state’s top five public high schools as ranked by U.S. News and World Report are located in Honolulu.
