Lifestyle and Culture

Like much of coastal southern California, Long Beach has a temperate, Mediterranean climate. This makes the lifestyle of the city very outdoor-friendly and the beach and boardwalk areas are particularly popular.

It also has a strong music scene including the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, Long Beach Symphony and many concert venues. It is the origin of many famous bands and musicians including Sublime, Snoop Dogg and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

The public school system is mostly administered by the 94-school Long Beach Unified School District. This is a very diverse district and serves 81,000 students and employs 8,000 people.
